(Updated August 15, 2024)
Eric Tabacek, from the AACO Traffic Engineering Division, attended the HOA June 12th in response to concerns raised by the board about speeding along Bay Head Road. Many residents frequent Bay Head Park, and speeding has become a safety concern for those walking to the park.
On July 15th, a traffic monitoring trailor was placed on Bay Head Road to alert drivers to their driving speed and to collect speed data. The trailer was removed on July 22nd. Unfortunately, there was a malfunction with the speed monitoring equipment and data was not recovered.
The AACO staff is currently being trained on new non-invasive collective equipment that will be used to monitor and collect speed data. The roll-out time for the new equipment is not yet set, but we will have an update in three weeks on the progress. Once the new equipment is rolled out, it will be used on Bay Head Road to gather information, and the results will assist in moving forward with a system to ensure safety for pedestrian crossing and traffic calming on Bay Head Road.
(Update August 15th, 2024)
A crosswalk to the south entrance of Bay Head Park will be installed after an ADA ramp is constructed on the west side of Bay Head Road. A work order has been placed for the ADA ramp, which is projected to be completed in early fall. "Kids at Play" safety signs are also planned for installation along Bay Head Road.
David Stansbury, a resident of Revell Downs, is working with Eric Tabacek on the Bay Head traffic calming and is leading a committee to address speeding and safety concerns in our neighborhood. If you want to join this committee or have questions or concerns, please email him at speed@revelldownshoa.org.
