Community History
In September 1952, the first Anne Arundel County Fair was held at the old Labrot Race Track near Sandy Point, courtesy of Mrs. Spence. There were beef and dairy cattle, chickens and pigeons of all sorts, farm produce, home goods food, and clothes, pigs, and sheep, a horse-pulling contest, rides, games, food, a queen contest, and educational exhibits.
In the early 1900s, Sylvester Labrot, a successful businessman from New Orleans, acquired the property. His son, William H. Labrot, a sports enthusiast and politician, renamed the property “Holly Beach Farm” and made it one of Maryland’s most successful horse breeding farms.
The Revell Downs development was built on the Labrot Race Track site. Streets in the neighborhood are named after winning horses.
